Zarq (“the App”) is an Android application that displays randomly generated, humorous text messages. The App does not require registration, a user account, or any personal information from you as a user. The vast majority of the App’s functionality runs entirely locally on your device, without transmitting data to us or our servers — we do not operate any servers that receive user data.
If you grant the App permission to read your calendar, the App reads the titles and start times of your upcoming appointments locally on your device in order to:
This data never leaves your device. It is not transmitted to us or to any third party; it is processed exclusively on-device and not stored permanently.
This permission is optional. You can revoke it at any time in Android’s system settings; the App will continue to function without appointment-related features.
The App can show you local push notifications (e.g. for an upcoming appointment, or as a daily reminder at a fixed time). These notifications are scheduled and triggered entirely on your device; no data is transmitted to external servers. You can disable this feature at any time in the App’s settings.
The App stores certain settings locally on your device (e.g. whether notifications are enabled, which phrases have already been shown) in what’s known as “SharedPreferences”. This data never leaves your device and is deleted when you uninstall the App.
When you share a phrase as an image through the App, the image is generated locally on your device. The actual sharing (e.g. via WhatsApp, messaging apps, or email) happens through the app you choose on your device — we have no influence over and no knowledge of who or where you share content with.
The App displays advertising through Google AdMob, a service provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland (“Google”).
To deliver personalized or non-personalized ads, AdMob may process the following data:
This data processing is carried out by Google as an independent data controller, not by us. More information can be found in Google’s Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland, or the United Kingdom, you may be shown a consent dialog regarding ad personalization the first time you open the App. You can withdraw or adjust your consent at any time [ADD LINK/REFERENCE TO SETTINGS OPTION HERE ONCE GOOGLE’S CONSENT TOOL (UMP SDK) IS IMPLEMENTED].
Beyond the advertising integration described in Section 4, we do not share data with third parties, as we do not generally collect or store personal data on our own servers.
The App is not specifically directed at children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
To the extent personal data is processed by third parties (in particular Google, in connection with the advertising feature), you generally have the following rights as a data subject:
Since we do not store personal data on our own servers, these rights primarily concern data processing carried out by Google (AdMob). Please contact Google directly regarding this.
We reserve the right to update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in law or App functionality. The current version is always available at https://github.com/Stefconia/zarq-legal
